A beautiful panel depicting a carpenter and his wife along with his workbench and 18th century tools. Oak, it varies from 2 1/4 to 3 inches thick. The carving stands out approximately an inch in relief. At one time there were letters carved on and above the banner. We cannot make them out now. There are three sliding dovetails in the back where boards were inserted to prevent cupping. One of the three splines remains and it appears to have been fashioned with an axe, as has the back of the entire panel. A truly priceless artifact! 21 1/4" x 64 1/4"
