Magnificent Complete Set of 12 JAMES SWAN Socket Firmer Chisels in Original Display Box! - 95237 - AS OF OCT 27

$ 1,195.00
Item #: 95237

Fine and full-length. Set Number 7512A in an elaborate display box. Sizes 1/8 through 2 inch. Leather capped hickory handles are all matching and new. The best set of SWANS we have ever had. This set is "square edged socket firmer" despite what the box label reads.

For edge taking and holding ability JAMES SWAN is the BEST OF ALL TIME. His chisels are sought after over any other maker. James Swan emigrated from Scotland in 1854 and worked at the Bassett Iron Works in Birmingham, CT, the Farrel Foundry & Machine Co in Ansonia, CT, and for Oliver Annes before buying Annes' business in 1877. He acquired Douglass Mfg. Co. and changed its name, but apparently still used its name in 1894. Upon Swan's death, the company passed to his son William, followed by his brother John, followed by James, son of John.
